Czech-Bavarian Geopark
The Geopark Project presents the results of an unique geological phenomena of this area of the Czech-Bavarian border (a combination of tectonics, a rift zone, post-volcanic activities, thermal and mineral water springs, seismic activity, mineralogy, palaeontology, the mining and the utilization of minerals, and re-cultivation). This project is known far beyond the borders of the region. The project is meant for the experts and for the non-professional people as well and one its main goals is to become part of the national and European geoparks. Currently in this park, new three-language information signs are placed in the most attractive locations for geo-tourism showing the uniqueness of the geological richness of the region and documenting its long and famous history connected with mining (of silver, tin, and uranium ores, and coal, kaolin and other raw materials) and with its many well-preserved technical monuments (mining museums, open-air museums, water tools for mining).

Modernization of the Karlovy Vary Airport, Stage III, Phase 1
Stage III, Phase 2 – Construction of new check-in hall
On the 20th of February 2008, the construction work on the new check-in hall was commenced. The total costs for this project are estimated to about 98,130,000.- CZK, a financial contribution from the “Regionální operační program NUTS II Severozápad” (Regional Funding Programme NUTS II Northwest) helped cover the cost. The new check-in hall has been designed to assure the maximum comfort for the passengers and to comply with all the operational needs of the airport. It satisfies all the requirements for an international airport, the importance of the region has been considered when designing capacity. After this hall will become operational, the airport will be able to handle the expected rising number of passengers (in the year 2007 the number of passengers increased by 80 % compared to 2006). With the new check-in hall, the airport will be able to handle about 3 to 4 mid-sized transport airplanes at the same time. The new hall will have 2 floors and a gallery. After completing the Stage 3 of the modernization of the Karlovy Vary Airport, a functional operational complex will have been created, enabling the flow of the requested number of passengers and the satisfaction of the requested standards. At the same time, the reorganization of the controlling and transporting system for baggage will be completed.
